About Makom Balev

Israeli teens today are faced with challenging questions about themselves and their surroundings. Many are seeking a warm and welcoming place, where someone can listen to them and encourage them to show off their unique personalities. Makom Balev (“Place in the Heart”) is such a place: a creative program through which teens are introduced to Jewish and Zionist values, as well as educational and responsible messages.

Makom Balev was founded in 1999 by OU Israel. The Orthodox Union operates several critical youth projects both in Israel and abroad, the most notable being the NCSY teen program in the USA. In Israel, Makom Balev has no less than 12 branches that are strengthening young people and communities throughout the country.

Makom Balev operates leisure activities for teens between the ages 10-18, mainly in peripheral towns. Over the years several thousands of Makom Balev members have grown with respect to their Jewish identity, their bonds with the Land, and their commitment to the country. Indeed, through empowerment and goodwill, these graduates have since become leaders in the community and are playing key roles in Torah-oriented Zionist activities throughout Israel.
